practice and faith
|
when I first wrote this, I took a vague, non-committal approach- exactly the kind of tone that usually turns me off. I didn't realize I was selling myself and you short. here's what my life has taught me; take it as you will.
yoga is safe. you can practice regardless of whether you worship God by any name or whether you worship nothing at all, or whether you don't know up from down (though you might topple over more often in balancing poses). practicing yoga doesn't mean that you have to ascribe to a certain religion or philosophy.
yoga is meant to help you live your life better-- it's up to you to decide what to do with that life.
that said, most people seem to gain a greater appreciation for life in general after they've practiced for a while. if you choose to devote yourself to a particular spiritual path, practicing yoga can help.
a word of caution: exploring different paths may be how you find your "home". however, many times we get distracted by the details and the ritual. pretty much, if you're spending your time and attention devoted to anything but getting to know and emulate your concept of God, then you're probably just worshipping the creation, not the creator. ask questions. listen to your heart (sorry, corny but true. if that doesn't make sense, keep practicing and asking. it will get easier).
I believe that we are all deeply loved and supported, no matter what. whether we choose to accept that love is our decision. the only sin is moving away from God-- there is only one choice we make in life and we make it over and over ...
fear
or
love?
